Current Volunteer Opportunities-
Covenant Health Systems www.covenanths.org Covenant Health Systems offers many ways for you to share your talents with others in hospitals, nursing homes and the patients they serve in the New England Area. House of Hope, Lowell, Massachusetts www.hopelowell.org A Grey Nun founded this temporary shelter that provides advocacy and care for homeless families in Lowell, Massachusetts. Volunteers are actively recruited and trained with opportunities in preparing and serving meals, working with the children, doing yard work, receptionist duties, etc. If you want to make a difference, this is a great opportunity. Marguerite’s Place, Nashua, New Hampshire www.margueritesplace.org Opened in 1992, this transitional housing program for women and children in crisis was originally conceived and implemented by several branches of the Grey Nuns. Volunteer opportunities exist in the on-site day care for children as well as in other areas. Neighbors Who Care, Waltham, Massachusetts www.neighborswhocare.net
This is a non-profit inter-faith outreach program that began in April, 2004. Neighbors Who Care provides free volunteer services to high risk homebound elderly and chronically ill adults in the greater Waltham, Massachusetts community. Volunteers are needed to provide informal care for the homebound.
Youville Place Assisted Living Residence, Lexington, Massachusetts www.youvilleplace.org In 1996, the Provincial House of the Grey Nuns was transformed into a very special assisted living residence in the spirit of St. Marguerite d’Youville. The mission of Youville Place is to provide a secure home environment and an array of personal care services which promote the dignity and well-being of all residents, while celebrating each person’s individual spirit. The volunteer program at Youville Place is enthusiastically supported by the Recreation Department.
Currently, volunteers teach individual computer classes, play cards, help with craft groups, give individual support to residents, lead discussion groups, share their musical talents, and accompany residents and staff on community outings. The volunteers add a special dimension to life at Youville Place and are welcomed by staff and residents alike. For more information about volunteering, please call Paula Anton, Recreation Director, at (781) 861-3535.
